What is a Butterfly Valve?

Butter Fly Valves are the valves which are quick acting rotary motion valves having a compact design. It regulates the flow of materials within large pipe diameters by the quarter-turn rotation of a disc. If we look into the history we will able to understand how the name Butterfly Valve derived . As a matter of fact the name Butterfly valve derived because of its design and movement. A close look at a butterfly valve, you will find that the rod in the Butterfly valve looks similar to the body of a butterfly and the disc movement is also like a butterfly wing up and down at 90 Degree motion.

In Low Pressure Applications, concentric butterfly valve are better used and in case of High Pressure Application triple-offset Butter Fly Valves are used but the Pressure should not exceed 1,000 PSI.

When Using Butter Fly Valve , what to avoid for Better Performance ?

In case if the medium of flow through the Valve is highly viscous fluids or slurries, then it is advisable to avoid using Butterfly valve for such application and choose some other valve instead.
