Ball Valves and its Application

What is a Ball Valve?

In Ball Valve, a pivoting ball, also known as a rotary ball in the centre of the valve controls the flow of liquid or gas media. These are quarter-turn on/off devices. A stem on the top of the ball rotates the ball to open or close the valve. The stem can be turned using manual levers or through automation.

For Better oparationality right selection of Ball valve is required. When we select a ball valve we must check the valve body design and trunnion ball mechanisms as these features are responsible for smooth flow, minimal pressure loss, and reliable shut-off across various conditions

Ball Valves offered by Spectec Valves & Instrumentations Pvt. Ltd (SVIPL) are as follows:

  • • 1 Piece Flange End Full Bore Ball Valve
  • • 2 Piece Flange End Full Bore Ball Valve
  • • 3 Piece Flange End Full Bore Ball Valve
  • • 3 Piece Socket-Screw End Ball Valve
  • • 3 Way Flanged End Ball Valve
  • • 3 Way Socket End Ball Valve

Types of Ball Valve & Its Application:

Each type varies in construction, maintenance ease, and installation requirements, making them suitable for different applications.

One-Piece Ball Valves:

This kind of Valves are compact in design and cost-effectiveness. One-piece ball valves are ideal for moderate applications.

Two-Piece Ball Valves:

These kind of ball valves are durable and offers easy maintenance. Which making them suitable for residential and commercial applications.

Three-Piece Ball Valves:

This type of Ball Valves has a solid construction and it is easier for installation and maintenance. This kind of Ball valves are generally used for high-pressure applications.

What is the difference between a Full Bore Ball Valve & Reduced Bore Ball Valve?

A Full Bore Ball Valve is a type of Valves, that opens completely when the actuator moves, which creates an unobstructed path for easy flow of fluid to flow through a pipe where this valve is used. This valves have a pressure classes between 150 to 600 which are generally used for industries and pipelines where viscous mediums that are prone to slagging need to be transported without any interruption.

Reduced Bore Ball Valves are the type of valves which have less than 85 percent of the inner diameter of the ball valve port and opening in this ball valve is typically not greater than 9 mm. In reduced Ball Valve, opening is smaller than its end connection.

Reduced Bore Ball Valves, because of its design resist the flow that passes through the pipeline and significantly reduces the pipeline load. This type of Ball Valves is used in industrial pipelines that transport gasses or less viscous mediums like water.
